Mike DeWine

Richard Michael DeWine (born January 5, 1947) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 70th governor of Ohio since 2019. A native of Yellow Springs, Ohio, he graduated from Miami University in 1969 and from Ohio Northern University College of Law in 1972.^[1]

DeWine began his career as an assistant prosecutor in Greene County and served one term as county prosecutor from 1977 to 1981. He was a member of the Ohio Senate from 1981 to 1982, served four terms in the U.S. House from 1983 to 1991, and was lieutenant governor of Ohio from 1991 to 1994. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1994, reelected in 2000 and defeated in 2006.^[1]

DeWine returned to office as Ohio attorney general in 2011, serving until 2019, and in that role challenged the Affordable Care Act and worked on the opioid epidemic. He was elected governor in 2018 and reelected in 2022.^[1][2][3]
