Before entering the cabinet he spent decades as an environmental lawyer, working with Riverkeeper and the Natural Resources Defense Council, teaching environmental law at Pace University and founding the Waterkeeper Alliance in 1999. He ran in the 2024 presidential election before withdrawing and endorsing Donald Trump.

Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. (born January 17, 1954) is an American lawyer and government official serving as the 26th United States secretary of health and human services. He is a son of U.S. Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and a nephew of President John F. Kennedy.[1]

Kennedy began his career as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan. In the mid-1980s he joined the environmental nonprofits Riverkeeper and the Natural Resources Defense Council. He became an adjunct professor of environmental law at Pace University School of Law in 1986 and founded the school's Environmental Litigation Clinic in 1987, and in 1999 he founded the Waterkeeper Alliance.[1][2][3]
Kennedy entered the 2024 presidential election first as a Democrat and then as an independent, withdrawing from the race and endorsing Donald Trump. In November 2024 President-elect Trump nominated him for secretary of health and human services, and the Senate confirmed him in February 2025 by a vote of 52 to 48.[1]
