He ran for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination and withdrew in January 2024.

Ronald Dion DeSantis (born September 14, 1978) is an American politician, attorney and former naval officer serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. Born in Jacksonville, he graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School.[1]

DeSantis joined the U.S. Navy in 2004 and served as a legal advisor to SEAL Team One, was stationed at Joint Task Force Guantanamo in 2006 and deployed to Iraq in 2007. After returning he was appointed a special assistant U.S. attorney in the Middle District of Florida, a post he held until his honorable discharge from active duty in 2010.[1]

He was first elected to Congress in 2012 and served three terms, becoming a founding member of the Freedom Caucus. He was elected governor in 2018 by 0.4 points and reelected in 2022 by 19.4 points, the widest margin in a Florida governor's race since 1982. He announced a campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination in May 2023 and withdrew in January 2024.[1][2]
