Scott Kenneth Homer Bessent (born August 21, 1962) is an American investor and government official serving as the 79th United States secretary of the treasury. He graduated from Yale University in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in political science.[1]

Born August 21, 1962 in Conway, South Carolina. Age 64 as of 2026.[3]

Bessent was hired by Soros Fund Management in 1991 and eventually led its London office. He was part of the group that profited on Black Wednesday during the September 1992 sterling crisis, and in 2013 the fund made a reported $1.2 billion on a bet against the Japanese yen. He left Soros in 2015 and founded the global macro investment firm Key Square Group.[1]

Bessent served as an economic advisor, fundraiser and major donor to the Donald Trump 2024 presidential campaign. Trump announced his nomination for treasury secretary on November 22, 2024; the Senate confirmed him 68-29 on January 27, 2025 and he was sworn in the following day.[1][2]
